We are gonna change things up tonight. Don’t blame me, it is just fate. When the world keeps throwing clues at you, what can you do? Well, you could take the hint, which I did. Won’t you join me now as we make Watermelon Beer.

I know. This is not even a cocktail. True. Point conceded. However, it is light and refreshing and wonderful and this is my dinghy, so I’m going to sail it as I please. Besides, I came home and mowed the lawn, got a bit hot under the collar and thought to myself, “well a cold beer would certainly hit the spot.” Then I saw the fresh watermelon cut up on the counter and the rest, as they say, is history.
Grab no tins at all, you are going to want a mixing cup with a heaping cup of watermelon chunks. Grab your muddler and muddle to your hearts content. Smash that watermelon up, releasing all of its vital juices, crank up a little “Big Bad Moon“ by Joe Satriani for inspiration in honor of that awesome full moon out there shining down on us sinners tonight. When you feel you have muddled as completely as you may, strain out the solids and grab a chilled beer mug or Pilsner glass, as we did. Add 1/2 an ounce of vanilla simple syrup, I cheated and did regular simple with a 1/2 teaspoon of Bell Buckle Country Store vanilla extract added. Pour your watermelon juice in after it, about half a glass will do. Top with a nice wheat beer, I went with Blue Moon

Cool, refreshing, a little sweet. This is lovely. Who cares if it is not a cocktail? It has alcohol, there is ritual involved, that’s close enough for me on a random full moon Wednesday. I hope it will do for you. Stay safe, stay hydrated and stay sane, my friends
